Garlic - The Best

Give me garlic any time and I will eat them with pleasure. It is only since coming to Bulgaria that garlic has taken hold of my life. Not a day goes by without a dose. It is mainly eaten raw with bread before my main course meal in the evening. No problem with garlic breath as my partner doesn’t he same!

If there is one food, which is great for health and the easiest to grow it has to be garlic. Each year I grow around 1,000 sets but I do not wait for the seeding time and the classic garlic bulb to form. Garlic is eaten way before this when it is shooting up in the spring and green. This of course in normal food and in Bulgaria, but in the UK this is something many just don’t know about. It is certainly never sold in supermarkets. I hope it remains that way as they will set up sterile standards implemented by the EU and chemicals used to achieve that.

One day a year the sets are sown and 364 days of the year garlic is used from that. Storing garlic is just as easy, picking them when the weather is dry in the summer, platting them and hanging them up in the garage. They last up to 18 months that way as long as protected from the frost and well ventilated.

Garlic has to be one of the best foods on earth not only in its own right but also as an accompaniment to thousands of other dishes. Garlic has a thumb up for sure here.

Contraceptives Overpriced Until Now

Today we had to shop for some condoms, something that I felt quite embarrassed to do in the UK but here in Bulgaria there are no scruples about buying things like this. It is only recently that we have had to use them as my partner is now off the pill due to medical reasons. Before today we expected to pay between 2 and 3 BGN Leva for a packet of three. We find it quite annoying that we have to pay for sex so to speak and at 1 BGN leva a go it can be quite a turn off.

So today we shopped for condoms expected to pay the going rate for the “Durex” brand as that was all we could find locally. Until today! There was a new brand on the shelf and made in Slovakia Bulgaria’s neighbour. The brand is called Pascale and the price was only 87 BGN stotinki for a pack of three. It was a very happy couple going thought the checkout with this bargain of a contraceptive.

We only bought one packet and intend to try one out tonight. Then on approval will buy more at this price. Why the hell do big companies like ‘Durex’ rip so many people off with their prices? Well, we still have to pay for sex, but this time at a third of the cost!

It’s not only a thumbs up for good quality, but cheap contraceptives. It would do the world a favour if they were all free to be quite honest.

Tea - Cheap, Natural And Good For You

Tea is something we take for granted. Even though I live in Bulgaria I still find that tea is something I like to drink firs thing in the morning to wake me up. The beauty is that tea is not only good for you being a herb, but it is one of the cheapest forms of drink refreshment.

I can get British brand named tea here such as PG Tips etc., in Bulgaria, but I am not an expatriate who likes getting ripped of with extortionate prices so I choose a cheaper brand of tea. In fact it is unbelievably cheap. The brand name is Golden Lion and is a Sri Lankan tea, which is where is was grown, picked and packed and exported direct to Bulgaria. There are Bulgarians who do drink this type of tea and it is not just confined to the British living here.

For 25 teabags the cost is just 0.99 BGN Leva. This works out that each cup of tea is under 0.04 stotinki! Where else can you buy a refreshing drink that is natural, healthy and good tasting at this price? Quite simply you can’t. All this marketing for drinks at stupid prices and chemically filled and people buy and drink them more fool them.

So it is a thumbs up to Golden Lion Tea, which is in Bulgarian Cyrillic text on the box as well.

Crisps - A Bigger Con Than You Think

Crisps, what a con! One 25gm bag of crisps takes less than one potato to make. How much is the cost of one potato? Well think about it hard, you are being taken for a ride and not only that this food is one of the worse for you.

In many cases it is not even potatoes used in making crisps, but a compound made up just like they use for french-fries and this is even worse for you. Again, just think what crisps actually are. They are thin slices of potato or shaped compound that are deep-fried in fat/oil. They are then smothered in salt and other chemically enhanced flavours that give you the impression that that particular flavoured crisps. No matter how companies present their crisp products as healthy, this is a complete lie. Unless I am mistaken, a product that is saturated in fat or oil certainly can’t be healthy for you, but they get way by saying ‘healthier’. Healthier than what, another packet of crisps that have more salt and more saturated fat or oil that is.

I won’t go into the advertising, but only go as far to say that is preys on the weak willed and uneducated very successfully.

I am glad to say that crisps haven’t yet been a main play in the food here in Bulgaria but it is coming up on the rails with the advertising. The reason it is not too successful is that they are a very expensive product and like I started this post in saying, Bulgarian’s don’t like getting ripped off with crap food products that cost lots of money they haven’ got!

Whatever Garden You Want - You Can Always Enchance It

If there is one thing that I really could not be without it is a garden. Not just space to sit out in but a place where you can create your own environment wither it be a place for flowers, vegetables, relaxing, sports or even left to grow wild. It is a place where you can stamp your own personality and an extension to your living environment.

There is an online shopping site that I have found that can help you create the garden to suit your personality. This includes goods that you can fit into your outdoor area including porch and patio areas if you so wish. Ever fancied a weathervane or wind chimes? Well you’ll find a good selection here and competitively priced as always when you shop on online compared to high street prices.

My own personal pick would be a fire pits and oil lamps. I just love playing with fires in gardens it’s a man thing really but everyone to their own. Also there is a fascination with torches, which are really useful as I go out at night looking hunting for slugs and snails that eat my vegetables. Whether you be a bit of a garden snob or more down to earth green fingered person there are things that you can find that will enhance any garden.

A thumbs up for gardens and place where you can buy not just fashionable garden equipment but practical as well.

Digital Cameras - A God Send To Photography

A digital camera is one of the best hi-tech gadgets to hit this planet! Before this came along photography was firstly a saga with films having to be processed and no real idea how you pictures would turn out. And secondly, the cost was expensive with photographs that you didn’t want still in your photograph wallet whether you want them or not. In essence is it wasteful not only from pictures that didn’t work out that will just gather dust in cupboards, but the chemicals used to process the negative then more chemicals to produce the prints. Not environmentally friendly at all.

Now of course the digital camera age has taken hold and the new age of photography has come into play in a big way. More photographers, more pictures and of course not chemical or photographic paper wasted on pictures we don’t want as we can view select or delete photograph we don’t want printed. Why print in any case when you can view the pictures digitally on your laptop, PC or television?

I only wish I could afford to buy one right now and use as an aid for my blogging as my existing one is broken!

One of the best innovations of modern times is the digital camera so a big thumbs up here.

Fancy Barbecue Sets Are A Waste Of Money

Why spend hundreds of pounds on a posh barbecue set up? This is a question I asked myself on many occasions since coming to Bulgaria. In the UK it was a very expensive system I used that incorporated a electronic start up ignition, a gas supplementary cooking facility and lots of additional nit and pieces that cost another fortune. All I wanted to do was barbecue a few bit of chicken and chemically enhanced hamburgers!

Here inn Bulgarian barbecue system cost next to nothing and the results are ten times better than a designer based system. A couple of bricks of stones on a circle and a grill over the top is the system used here. This is filled with last years dried grape pruning and a bit of cardboard for the start and charcoal topping once the fire has established itself. We used this system week in week out not only in our garden but when travelling to the countryside, the materials are always around as nature provides them.

The food of course is home grown Bulgarian in the main, but that’s not the only reason they taste so much better that the ‘crap’ on offer in the UK. It is the rustic elements that give something you cannot buy and replicate in this form of barbecuing. You are after all having a barbecue not a barbecue fashion parade and of course there is now cleaning, scrubbing and washing up afterwards with the rustic system. Environmentally it wins hands down as well.

A big thumbs down to all designer barbecue systems they are a waste of money and bad for the environment.

Reviews - Use Them They're Useful

Reviews are very useful to everyone who wants anything. They should be more popular and people should realise that most reviews are provided free of charge and in the main impartial. All reviews take time and effort to produce and much goes un-thanked from people who use them to derive at a decision on whether to buy, but review still keep coming up.

If someone wanted to know about catalogs and which ones were the best to use as a promotion for my business for example a review is the best method to choose. I would just use a web search engine and write ‘catalog reviews’ and it will return various sites that do just that – review catalogs. It is funny how many people just ignore this process when they don’t’ know too much about the tings they want.

This blog is a review blog and covers a variety of goods and services. I found myself asking why I do it? Well if I find something worth buying I love telling people about it. Also I can’t stand money being wasted or people being conned so I write about that as well. Just writing about things is of course a passion for millions and that why blogs are so popular and on the rise.

It is such an obvious tip to take advice from experts when looking for goods or services to buy. One description of an expert is the word ‘Geek”. A geek is a person totally immersed into something and a maestro in their field. So when I saw a website with the word geek in the title, I knew straight away that experts are on the case and the site must give good advice to readers who are not geeks, me included.

With this blogs giving advice about goods and services it is rare to get something this good for free and that is what is it. A reference point to a web host that will guide you to something just up your street and not cost a penny.

If you are not content with your current web hosting service or you are starting from scratch you will struggle to cover the option that are open to you and that include the good the bad and the ugly. Any unwary web administrator would be lured into the a spider’s web and then get trapped with a web hosting service that will not let you go without penalties. Advice and review is something that will save you time, money and not least less headaches!
