Give me garlic any time and I will eat them with pleasure. It is only since coming to Bulgaria that garlic has taken hold of my life. Not a day goes by without a dose. It is mainly eaten raw with bread before my main course meal in the evening. No problem with garlic breath as my partner doesn’t he same!
If there is one food, which is great for health and the easiest to grow it has to be garlic. Each year I grow around 1,000 sets but I do not wait for the seeding time and the classic garlic bulb to form. Garlic is eaten way before this when it is shooting up in the spring and green. This of course in normal food and in Bulgaria, but in the UK this is something many just don’t know about. It is certainly never sold in supermarkets. I hope it remains that way as they will set up sterile standards implemented by the EU and chemicals used to achieve that.
One day a year the sets are sown and 364 days of the year garlic is used from that. Storing garlic is just as easy, picking them when the weather is dry in the summer, platting them and hanging them up in the garage. They last up to 18 months that way as long as protected from the frost and well ventilated.
Garlic has to be one of the best foods on earth not only in its own right but also as an accompaniment to thousands of other dishes. Garlic has a thumb up for sure here.
