This is a review of Christmas and what I feel about it. Okay, we should only now begin to start talking about Christmas, as I firmly believe the festive season starts for real 12 days before the 25th December. The commercial world make you want to believe that the run up to Christmas starts in September. This is to get the best profits out of Christmas and many businesses on the Christmas bandwagon for profits aren’t Christian in any case!
After trying to avoid the avalanche of adverts on television and the media, now should be the time to be thinking about plans for this Christmas. It is a time where families should get together and take time to reflect on what Christmas really is. This has been forgotten and Christmas has been exploited and manipulated for many years.
One thing that I do not miss about Christmas in the UK is writing and sending Christmas cards. Many used to be sent just for the sake of it and didn’t have any real sincerity. The cards I received used to be hung on the wall. Each year there would be some 150-200 cards hung up, mind you many were from the children I used to teach in primary school. Now many people, me included just send e-cards online, which can be personalised, this saves on paper and postage.
Another thing about Christmas whilst working in schools is it that by the time the school breaks up it really felt like Christmas has finished after the Christmas concerts, carol services and parties have taken place.
The whole point is that Christmas is and should remain a Christian celebration seems to have been swept under the carpet. I hope this article brings back a little reminder of that.
A thumbs up to the celebration of the birth of Christ.
