Give me garlic any time and I will eat them with pleasure. It is only since coming to Bulgaria that garlic has taken hold of my life. Not a day goes by without a dose. It is mainly eaten raw with bread before my main course meal in the evening. No problem with garlic breath as my partner doesn’t he same!

If there is one food, which is great for health and the easiest to grow it has to be garlic. Each year I grow around 1,000 sets but I do not wait for the seeding time and the classic garlic bulb to form. Garlic is eaten way before this when it is shooting up in the spring and green. This of course in normal food and in Bulgaria, but in the UK this is something many just don’t know about. It is certainly never sold in supermarkets. I hope it remains that way as they will set up sterile standards implemented by the EU and chemicals used to achieve that.

One day a year the sets are sown and 364 days of the year garlic is used from that. Storing garlic is just as easy, picking them when the weather is dry in the summer, platting them and hanging them up in the garage. They last up to 18 months that way as long as protected from the frost and well ventilated.

Garlic has to be one of the best foods on earth not only in its own right but also as an accompaniment to thousands of other dishes. Garlic has a thumb up for sure here.

Contraceptives Overpriced Until Now

Today we had to shop for some condoms, something that I felt quite embarrassed to do in the UK but here in Bulgaria there are no scruples about buying things like this. It is only recently that we have had to use them as my partner is now off the pill due to medical reasons. Before today we expected to pay between 2 and 3 BGN Leva for a packet of three. We find it quite annoying that we have to pay for sex so to speak and at 1 BGN leva a go it can be quite a turn off.

So today we shopped for condoms expected to pay the going rate for the “Durex” brand as that was all we could find locally. Until today! There was a new brand on the shelf and made in Slovakia Bulgaria’s neighbour. The brand is called Pascale and the price was only 87 BGN stotinki for a pack of three. It was a very happy couple going thought the checkout with this bargain of a contraceptive.

We only bought one packet and intend to try one out tonight. Then on approval will buy more at this price. Why the hell do big companies like ‘Durex’ rip so many people off with their prices? Well, we still have to pay for sex, but this time at a third of the cost!

It’s not only a thumbs up for good quality, but cheap contraceptives. It would do the world a favour if they were all free to be quite honest.

Tea - Cheap, Natural And Good For You

Tea is something we take for granted. Even though I live in Bulgaria I still find that tea is something I like to drink firs thing in the morning to wake me up. The beauty is that tea is not only good for you being a herb, but it is one of the cheapest forms of drink refreshment.

I can get British brand named tea here such as PG Tips etc., in Bulgaria, but I am not an expatriate who likes getting ripped of with extortionate prices so I choose a cheaper brand of tea. In fact it is unbelievably cheap. The brand name is Golden Lion and is a Sri Lankan tea, which is where is was grown, picked and packed and exported direct to Bulgaria. There are Bulgarians who do drink this type of tea and it is not just confined to the British living here.

For 25 teabags the cost is just 0.99 BGN Leva. This works out that each cup of tea is under 0.04 stotinki! Where else can you buy a refreshing drink that is natural, healthy and good tasting at this price? Quite simply you can’t. All this marketing for drinks at stupid prices and chemically filled and people buy and drink them more fool them.

So it is a thumbs up to Golden Lion Tea, which is in Bulgarian Cyrillic text on the box as well.
